There has been an outbreak of whooping  cough in Longford. Whooping Cough is a serious and sometimes fatal illness in newborns. All pregnant ladies should be vaccinated between 16 and 36 weeks to protect newborn babies.

Also all close contacts of new babies should consider getting the vaccine including the baby’s father, grandparents and unvaccinated siblings.

All unvaccinated babies should also be vaccinated. Babies who are up to date with their vaccines as per the National Schedule are protected.
